A sixth Pakistan Super League team has been added to the league with the Schon Group buying a franchise that will be based out of Multan & named as Multan Sultans. Multan Sultans T20 Team Squad, Captain, Players List & The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) completed this announcement through respect to the 2018 PSL. PSL 3rd Edition will be played around February next year.
Star player and Former Captain of T20 Cricket Format also known as Professor, Mohammad Hafeez is likely to take over the Multan Sultans Squad Captaincy in third edition of PSL as the authorities are considering this name.
Some sources has revealed that the Former Sri Lankan batsman Mahela Jayewardene will be the Vice-Captain of the team whereas Australian Player Michael Clarke will be a strong candidate for coaching.
It is worth-mentioning that Mohammad Hafeez has previously presented the Peshawar Zalmi in the last edition of PSL. Moreover one player from every team and categories will be selected for Multan Sultans. Sources also revealed that Shoaib Malik was also contacted for the captaincy. But he refused to lead the Multan Sultans Squad.
PSL 3rd Edition announcements
With the increase in teams, the number of matches will also go up from 24 to 34. Najam Sethi, the league’s chairman, is also aiming to have at least eight matches in Pakistan. The final of the 2017 edition was played in Lahore amid high security, making Sethi believe. They can host more matches in the country.
Now the PSL 3rd edition shall be played by the end of January 2018. Multan Sultan will be the new attraction in the event.
Schon Group which is one of the richest families of Pakistan has bought the newly added Multan team in the Pakistan Super League. After successful bid at Pakistan Cricket Board. The Schon Group will be paying $41.6 million in a period of 8 years for this contract.
While speaking at the PSL 3rd edition auction, Asher Schon the son of renowned business leader Nasir Schon who cofounded the Schon Group said,
“We believe we have all the resources available to make this (investment) a successful venture.”
